Spanish Program in the ClassroomIncorporating a second language into the Montessori classroom can be challenging if it is not possible to have a native speaker working in the environment. Montessori philosophy teaches us (and science now confirms) that children learn language quickly and easily when they hear it spoken to them at a very young age. This year we are fortunate to have staff members in two Primary classes who will be speaking Spanish to the children throughout the day.
Nena Alarcon-Salinas and Alicia Aquila will be the teachers for ILMS. All Smarta teachers are native speakers and do “Spanish Immersion” (speaking only in Spanish while in the classroom). They incorporate all aspects of the Latin culture into their lessons: music, food, crafts, and art. We look forward to working with Ms. Salmeron and the Smarta School of Foreign Languages, and appreciate their willingness to customize a program to fit our needs.
