Mothers’ Night and Fathers’ NightEach spring we have two special evenings for parents to visit their child’s classroom. Mothers’ Night is held in April and Fathers’ Night takes place in May. See the ILMS Calendar for this year's schedule. This is a time for the children to show their parents all the wonderful work they have achieved during the year. We have found that it works best to have two separate nights so the child will have the undivided attention of each parent. We ask that cell phones be turned off and that siblings stay at home. This is not a time for parents to talk to the teacher or for children to receive lessons. The teacher is nearby if needed, but the focus is on the child and parent working together in the classroom. This differs from an observation because the parent is encouraged to move around the classroom and become an active participant. The children enjoy giving lessons to their parents, sometimes with very humorous results. One child had her father do the work blindfolded so he would find it “challenging”! Grandparents are welcome to come also. We have had some grandparents plan their annual visit around these special nights. This is a wonderful way for the children to culminate their work for the year. |
