Parents’ Morning
Coffee Meeting Notes
August 29, 2006
Introductions
It was wonderful to see so many new and familiar faces
at our coffee, and to have our first meeting in our new location in
Building 2. We
would like to thank the Horn family for providing us with coffee, and
the ladies from Dream Dinners who shared some of their tasty recipes.
Our next meeting will be on September 26, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. We
hope that those of you who were not able to attend the meeting this
morning will be able to make plans to join us next month.
We would like to thank Kathy Sexton for all of her hard work
on the school website. Be sure to visit the
website for the latest information regarding ILMS.
After introductions, Ms. Becky introduced the new Parent Group leader,
Pam Law. Pam and her family have been with ILMS for several years,
and we look forward to working with her this year. If you would
like to contact Pam, her email address is law4@adelphia.net
Mission Statement
Pam has written a mission statement on
behalf of the Parents’ group, and she would like to share it
with you.
“We, the parents of ILMS, come together as a supportive
and cohesive group to plan and execute activities towards assisting
the ILMS ownership and staff in providing the best schooling experience
for our children.”
The folloiwng items were discussed.
Fundraising
Meghan Jones shared some information regarding fundraising efforts
for last school year. The total amount raised through many different
efforts was $5,191.43. The money raised last year was used to
purchase classroom materials for the teachers.
There are many different ideas that were mentioned this morning, and
the fundraising committee will be looking into all the different options. More
information will follow when specific details are available.
For more on fundraising efforts, visit the ILMS
Fundraising page.
- Box Tops for Education
Please remember to collect
your Box Tops for Education. Amy
Andrews will be coordinating this fundraising effort this year. You
will need to have your Box Tops turned into the school before October
27, 2006. She will need
to have them counted and mailed by October 31, 2006.
- Square One Art
Amy Andrews is also coordinating
the Square One Art fundraising project. This
is an opportunity for your child’s artwork to be displayed on
many different items. Your choices may include items such as:
magnets, coffee cups, mouse pads, t-shirts, aprons, etc. Be on the
look-out for information to be sent home in your child’s
bag next Friday.
- Fall Festival
Our Fall Festival will be on Saturday,
October 21st at a time to be announced later. Our theme this year will be “Celebration
of the Nations.” Since our school represents 17 different
countries/cultures, we are very excited about this theme.
Sharon Jones
will be the coordinator this year, and she has invited anyone who
is interested in helping with this event to join her for coffee at
C.T. Grinder’s every Friday morning after you drop
your child off at school. The restaurant is located in a house
on the left at the end of Kelly Mill Road, just before you get to
Hwy 20.
- Scholastic Book Fair
Margaret Mulligan will be
the coordinator for this event here at the school. The fair
will run from October 13–October 21st. The
hours for most of the days will be from 8:00 – 12:00. The
fair will not be open on October 16th, as this is a staff development
day and school will be closed.
We held a fair a couple of years ago,
and it was a great success. The
fair this year will be set up in the Lunch Bunch building, and you
will have many opportunities to go in and shop. The school will
receive a percentage of the total amount of sales. This credit
can be used to purchase books, shelves, etc. for the classrooms.
The
theme of the book fair this year is the Rain Forest, and this will
work in nicely with the Fall festival theme.
Meg Davenport will also
be helping Margaret with the book fair by keeping track of the sales. Scholastic
will be donating money/books to charitable organizations based on what
we sell.
