Upper Elementary Seeking Donations for Children in Lusaka, Zambia

The Upper Elementary children are asking for donation of the following items to help children in Lusaka, Zambia as an outreach project.

Shoes Shoes that are in good condition in sizes for children 3-12 years old. The shoes may be flip flops, casual shoes, tennis shoes, black/brown dress shoes, or soccer shoes.
Blankets Blankets that are twin size or throws.
Money ($15.00 purchases 1 blanket in Lusaka, Zambia)

These items can be dropped off at the school on November 28th at any of the carpool times.

Reminder: Square 1 Art due on Friday, October 6, 2006

The deadline to have the artwork back to school is Friday, October 6, 2006. This allows time for all orders to be back in time for the holidays.

New Spanish Teacher

Please welcome our new Spanish teacher, Ms. Laura Ramirez. She is originally from Mexico. She has several years experience teaching Spanish in Montessori schools and has worked as an assistant in a primary class.

She will continue to follow the schedule set by Ms. Carmen, where she will rotate lessons in all the classes (except in Ms. Charlotte's class where Spanish will be taught by Ms. Jelly).

Letter from Ms. Carmen

Dear Parents,
During one and a half years I have enjoyed watching your children growing and learning in the rich Montessori environment guided under outstanding teachers. Willing to absorb something new, every time I went into the classrooms, your children approached me with a sweet "Hola".

But, today it is time to pursue new challenges in my professional career, so I am leaving the position as Spanish Teacher to join "Mr. Bryan" at Whitelake Studios in a full time job.

Por favor, keep encouraging your children to learn español, the second language in the United States.

I do not doubt that under the sound foundations offered by Joe and Diane Basco and the leadership of our beloved "Miss Becky", your children will be successful in life tomorrow.

Note from Ms. Becky:
Everyone will miss Carmen, who has added so much to ILMS. Thursday, (Aug 31) will be her last day. We plan on taking time in the classrooms for the children to say good-bye to her.

Parent Education Classes in September

In addition, Ms. Becky will be happy to schedule morning parent education classes in building 2 for those who are interested. Please email Ms. Becky if this would be a convenient time for you and include suggested topics and days you can meet. Some parents who have older children have also expressed an interest in classes. Ms. Becky hopes to start these after Sept. 1.

Catered lunches begin Sept 5, 2006

For those students who are in the primary afternoon class, lunch bunch, and elementary classrooms, we offer a catered lunch on Tuesday and Thursday. We will be starting these catered lunches beginning on September 5, 2006. Due to the lack of participation last year, we will not be offering the sub sandwiches on Wednesday this year. At this time, I do not have an option for a Wednesday lunch. If you have any suggestions for another choice, contact Donna in the ILMS Office. If you would like to order catered lunches for September, please use the September Lunches Form (pdf file).
