The History of Ivy League Montessori SchoolThe
School opened in June 1991 under the administrative supervision of Grace
Janho. Diane and Joseph Basco, of Cumming Georgia, took over the school in
the fall of 2003. Working closely with the staff under the direction of Ms.
Becky Carty the school has continued to grow and prosper. The vision of our school is to provide a full range of Montessori educational services from the Primary through the Elementary years at a level of excellence recognized as the highest quality service. At Ivy League Montessori the students are taught a strong work ethic through positive work experience. This experience is achieved when children feel a sense of pride in completing a task successfully. The Primary Level covers three full academic years (through Kindergarten), and it is essential that the children complete the entire program. It is through the completion of the kindergarten year that students are able to take complete advantage of the power of their “sensitive periods,” and fully internalize their learning. The Montessori classrooms are mixed age groupings, one in which children learn from one another as well as the teacher. The children truly take part in community action as they assist each other. More importantly, as the older children transmit knowledge they possess, they are solidifying and internalizing that knowledge.
